Kaas Pathar, about 25 km from Satara at around 1,200 m, is a high volcanic plateau that erupts into hundreds of species of wildflowers in late August to early October, when it is nicknamed Maharashtra's Valley of Flowers. It was included in UNESCO's Western Ghats World Heritage listing in 2012 for its biodiversity. Visitor numbers are capped and access is ticketed to protect the fragile blooms, so it is best visited on an early-September day trip, often paired with the nearby Thoseghar and Vajrai waterfalls.
